Alpha-Arbutin
💚Very good
What it is
A synthetic and more stable isomer of arbutin, a glycoside derived from the bearberry plant. It is a well-regarded skin-lightening agent.
How it works
Alpha-Arbutin works by competitively inhibiting the tyrosinase enzyme, which is essential for the production of melanin. By blocking the conversion of L-tyrosine to dopaquinone, it reduces the synthesis of melanin in the skin, leading to a reduction in hyperpigmentation.
Benefits
- Effectively fades dark spots, age spots, and melasma.
- Promotes a more even and radiant skin tone.
- Considered a safer alternative to hydroquinone.
Pairs well with
Niacinamide, Vitamin C, Azelaic Acid
