Cetearyl Alcohol

What it is

A fatty alcohol that is a mixture of cetyl and stearyl alcohols. It is a non-irritating ingredient used to thicken and stabilize formulations, as well as soften the skin.

How it works

As an emollient, it helps to soften and smooth the skin. As a texture enhancer and stabilizer, it gives body to creams and lotions and prevents the oil and water phases of an emulsion from separating. Unlike drying alcohols, fatty alcohols are non-irritating and beneficial for the skin.
