Hyaluronic Acid

    💚Good

    Also known as: HA

    Humectant

    What it is

A glycosaminoglycan naturally present in the skin that can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water, making it a powerhouse hydrator.

    How it works

As a humectant, it draws moisture from the environment and the deeper layers of the skin into the epidermis. High molecular weight HA sits on the surface, providing hydration and preventing water loss. Low molecular weight HA can penetrate deeper to provide hydration within the epidermis.

    Benefits

    • Provides intense and immediate hydration.
    • Plumps the skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
    • Helps to restore the skin's moisture barrier.
    • Enhances skin's suppleness and elasticity.

    Pairs well with

    Glycerin, Ceramides

    Formulation notes

    Effective concentration: 0.1% - 2.0%

    pH range: 4.0 - 11.0

    Stability: Stable.

    Safety

    Irritancy: 0

Warnings: In very dry environments, low molecular weight HA can potentially draw moisture from the deeper layers of the skin to the surface, where it evaporates.
