Petrolatum
Also known as: Petroleum Jelly, Vaseline
What it is
A semi-solid mixture of hydrocarbons derived from petroleum. It is considered the gold-standard occlusive agent for preventing moisture loss.
How it works
Petrolatum is the most effective occlusive agent known. It sits on top of the skin and forms a water-resistant barrier that prevents transepidermal water loss (TEWL) more effectively than any other ingredient, allowing compromised skin to heal and rehydrate from within.
Benefits
- Provides superior occlusion to prevent moisture loss.
- Helps to heal cracked, chapped, and severely dry skin.
- Protects skin from windburn and other environmental factors.
- Extremely gentle and non-allergenic.
